As many of you know, I recently wrote a post called, “People That Frustrate Worship Leaders” and a follow up, “More People That Frustrate Worship Leaders”. I have gotten all kinds of comments on facebook and here on this blog. It has been reproduced at musicacademy.com, which is a great resource for worship leaders as well as linked in a couple of blogs. One of the more serious links was from “Hearing Shofar – The Still Small Voice Of the Ram’s Horn.” The author of the blog is really serious about shofar blowing as he teaches and has written books on shofar blowing. I hope I did not offend him. When I had written the post I did not realize how serious the discipline of shofar blowing is in some circles. There are books and classes devoted to it. There is even a Shofar Hero game. If you don’t believe me you can go to this link and get your shofar on.

So many comments about the shofar….must refrain….self-discipline weakening…..
You are hilarious Donny.
Chico – he actually wrote a blog post about your blog post. I couldn’t stop laughing. Excluding the distracting sound of the shofar during a quite moment in worship has this guy ever smelled the stench that it leaves. It smells like you have 20 rams other ends (the opposite from their horns) spouting out the noise. That in itself should get shofars banned from public worship. Does the shofar hero game include a smell kit to make it realistic? Maybe one you can hang in your car in the shape of a shofar?
Sean,
Call me weird – I love the smell of rotting dead animal with the mixture of someone’s bad breath.
…wow…just….wow…they should make tambourine hero too!
Steve,
The shofar is the charismatic version of the cowbell.
I did not take offense at what you wrote about shofar. There are times to be let the spirit move you, and other times where one should let the common good of a congregation come first.
Regarding the smell of the shofar, my new website, http://www.hearingshofar.com will be live within the week. Volume two of my book on shofar has a chapter on “Buying, Making, and Caring for Shofar”. It has extensive discussion about “shofaROT”, the smell of a shofar. There are ways to mitigate the problem. There are also important spiritual messages to learn from the smell.
I see that you are a “Church Planter”. I am available to teach at churches. See the website for descriptions of seminars and how to contact me.
